On this day:

Home Improvements

On Saturday, Bryan and I went for a day out with Rhonda to IKEA Coquitlam. We had some home improvements in mind and had been planning our purchases and strategy for some time. We even elected to forgo Christmas presents from each other this year in order to afford it.

Things we bought:
bedside tables (2)
Bedside lamps (2)
IVAR storage system components (approx 30 components)
curtains (1 pair) and blinds (2)
curtain rod (1)
basket (1)
power cable tidying device (1)
mortar & pestle (1)
picture frame (1)
ironing board (1)
wine glasses (6)
plastic bag organiser
over-priced cheese grater
batteries
light bulbs
other stuff

What we ate for lunch in the IKEA cafeteria:
Swedish meatballs (Bryan)
coffee (Bryan)
ham and cheese sandwich (me)
frozen yogurt (me)
diet pepsi with free refills (me)
chocolate (snack while we checking out)

Total time spent in IKEA that day:
3.5 hours

Total cost of IKEA purchases: more than $500 CAD. I'd like to thank Kristina and Adam for their housewarming gift of IKEA gift vouchers.

Type of car we rented: recent model Ford Taurus station wagon

Additonal cost of car rental due to snow: $5

Quantity of long dark brown dog hair stuck to the interior of the rental car from previous rental: A lot. Quite disgusting.

Time spent assembling and reassembling furniture over the weekend: Upwards of 16 hours

Things we realised we forgot to buy at IKEA once we arrived home: Wall fittings to hold up the curtain rod (thus curtain rod and curtains not yet assembled).

Things we will be taking back to IKEA because they broke already: bedside lamp (1)

Things we will be taking back to IKEA because we bought the wrong thing: picture frame

Things we will be taking back to IKEA because we saw a better model for half the price in Real Canadian Superstore only an hour later: Over-priced cheese grater
